Champagne Still Pouring

Hey lovelies! My last post discussed Jaclyn Hill’s Champagne Pop Palette from Becca, and there’s one more product from that launch that I want to quickly talk about before moving on to bigger and better (and newer) beauty!

The much-awaited Champagne expansion collection also included, very briefly, a Champagne pop eyeshadow palette. This product was pretty controversial because, according to Jaclyn’s snapchat and to media statements released by Becca, it was produced in a different factory than the one in which Becca’s normal buttery formula is made. The factory apparently claimed to be able to replicate the formula, and unfortunately, it was discovered after the launch that the palettes’ quality was very inconsistent. Some were amazing, some were awful, and some were a little in-between. This kind of inconsistency, though, is a nightmare for the consumer, and so Becca heeded Jaclyn’s wishes for the palette to be pulled from shelves.

However – one of the best perks about working for a beauty retailer is gaining easy access to product, and I was able to purchase one before they were officially sent back to the brand!

So, how did I fare in the eyeshadow lottery? Let’s see!

Fizz, Pop, Clink!

Not that we ever need an excuse, but I feel like this weekend is a great time to pop some bubbly! I’ll be  celebrating something big – I’m going back to school this fall, and my first day is Monday! I haven’t been in school in 6 years, and am so excited for this big change. I’ll still be working on the weekends, (because who could give up being a Sephora girl?) but with Fridays free and clear to focus solely on my kiddo.

What more appropriate way to celebrate than by dusting on Becca X Jaclyn Hill’s Champagne Pop Cheek Palette?!

Peering Through the Looking Glass

You guys. I have a confession to make –

I haven’t even seen Disney’s Alice Through the Looking Glass yet! The namesake cosmetic collection came out May 1st on Urban Decay’s website, and the movie was released on May 27th, but with all the wedding craziness, I kind of ignored them both until very recently. Side note though: when researching the release dates, Google let me know that this movie is still showing at my local dollar theater! Maybe I’ll make it to a showing after all.

Even though these debuted in May, as of today, the collection is still available on the Sephora, Macy’s, and Nordstrom websites! Don’t worry, you haven’t missed out yet.

The Peach Palette craze has been REAL around here, you guys! ??? Clients ask for it every day, even though my local Sephora (and Ulta too, I think) isn’t scheduled to receive any more. Is that to say we’ll never see it again? Not at all!

I have full faith behind the idea that there will be more produced, or that the palette will be made all-together permanent. A little like Champagne Pop, if you will! ?

Chieseled to Perfection with Anastasia Cream Contour Kits

image

This contouring trend has been on a roll for a few years now, showing no signs of stopping. No matter how many professional makeup artists tell us it’s not a technique meant for everyday makeup, we’re not gonna listen, are we?

Because of this ‘more is more’ mentality that we see with each new contouring mini-tutorial on Instagram, I want to at least set the record straight when it comes to proper cream contouring technique.

Unless you’re a beauty guru and travel around with your lighting system, high-tech camera and photo/video editing technology on you at all times, chances are that you find it hard to translate the tutorials you see on YouTube into real life application. This is because when you step out of the perfect ambiance of a beauty ring light and into real-life, no-secrets daylight, you find that heavy cream contouring or using two foundation shades to sculpt your skin is not the most flattering application of makeup.

Fortunately, Anastasia’s Cream Contour Kits make shaping the face a breeze!

Glow, Baby, Glow!

Disclaimer: I normally hate taking photos with flash, but I had to for the sake of those sparkles on the cover of the glow palette! Sorry for the poor quality (:

Slowly, more and more pieces of Anastasia Beverly Hills are starting to trickle into Sephora. I plan on snatching them up one by one! And I started with the new(ish) Glow Kit in Gleam.

You know, I think someone should start a rehab program for highlighter addicts. I’ve got it bad, and this palette is like crack for me!

I’m Rocking Tom Ford Lately

“I don’t pop Molly, I rock Tom Ford..” – so true, haha.

While in Austin, I visited a Tom Ford counter at Nordstrom, and saw this beauty sitting out on display front and center. I’ve played around with Tom Ford products at counters before, but to be totally honest, sticker shock and employee intimidation have always kept me from purchasing.

Every time I talk to the SA’s, I feel like they kind of think they’re humoring me. I don’t always look like the typical ‘luxury’ client, pushing a crazy toddler in a stroller with my day-two hair in a bun, but I still like to be treated well when I’m planning on dropping some serious dollars on their products.

This time was no different, but fortunately, I took the plunge anyway!

I’m Picking Up Good Vibrations

image

Fast side note – your mid-twenties are a really strange time, my friends. If you’ve been there, you know what I’m talking about, and if you haven’t, here’s what’s coming:

You don’t really know what’s ‘cool’ anymore. At least, not right away. I can’t keep up with which videos went viral this week, what dance everyone is doing now, or all the millions of new apps that rise to fame and fizzle out every couple of weeks. The things that defined my childhood are totally different than the technology driven world today’s teens have been raised in, so when I write posts with titles like ‘I’m Picking Up Good Vibrations’, I’m hoping that the Beach Boys have spanned enough generations that I don’t alienate my audience.

You also don’t feel super adult-like. Sure, I have a toddler, a mortgage, a car note, and have to make my own doctors appointments now, but I’m still not a Grown Up, right?

It’s a weird age. But makeup makes the transition a little bit easier! ? That I know, and that I can keep up with.

Now that I’ve let you all in on my quarter life crisis, let’s get down to business!

A Colorful Spectrum

IMG_0385

Ah. The Urban Decay Spectrum Palette.

I reviewed this one back in October after it briefly popped up online for the holidays. Unfortunately, even I wasn’t fast enough to grab it from Sephora, so I ended up purchasing it for a large mark-up off of eBay.. and now my tears of regret can be your tears of joy!

The good news for you guys is that Spectrum is coming back for Spring, AND it will be in stores this time! I don’t know of a launch date, but it should be very soon. That’s why I thought we could revisit it for a minute, and I’ve added swatches as well!

I’m actually really excited that this is re-launching, because it’s very pretty and deserves some more attention.
