Kylie Cosmetics Lip Kit – Posie K

Well, this post is definitely a couple of days overdue, but I promise it’ll be worth it!

Due to bad luck, or maybe an affinity for junk food and no sleep, I’m sick with strep again, for the second time in like 2 1/2 weeks. It kind of knocks me out (I took a 6-hour nap today, and the night before last I slept for 15 hours), so that’s the cause for the delay. I’m even yawning and rubbing my eyes as I type!

But Posie K needs to be talked about. I saved the best (in my opinion) for last (:

Kylie Cosmetics Lip Kit – True Brown K

So, earlier this afternoon, the following exchange happened on my Instagram page under this lip swatch I posted of Candy K last night:

“rudeperson: That is horrible

niceperson: Um that is rockin. I have no idea what you’re talking about.

neutralperson: @niceperson think they mean it’s too over lined”

With a small following, I haven’t really experienced much hate before, so this is my first experience with it. The only reason I bring it up isn’t to whine about it, but to use it as a learning tool.

People are careless and brave behind a keyboard. They don’t mind making cutting comments because there are no repercussions.

But guess what? I love my over lined lips!

‘Over lining’ is a technique that involves going outside the natural border of the lip with a liner in order to make the lips appear fuller and plumper, and was originally practiced by drag queens. The technique has taken off into the mainstream over the past year after being popularized by Kylie Jenner. I tend to over line my top lip, especially for swatch photos, because it gives me a better top-to-bottom-lip ratio.

Makeup is about making yourself feel beautiful, confident, and mostly about having fun! I enjoy the ritual of lining my lips to Angelina Jolie proportions, and I don’t see myself stopping any time soon.

Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, tonight we’ll be talking about True Brown K. And yes, my lips are over lined in the picture (:

Kylie Cosmetics Lip Kit – Candy K

Iiiiiiiiiiii want Candy! ??

Except, I’ve already got it! If you were lucky (and quick) today, it’s possible you got your hands on it too! At 5pm Central, the newest Lip Kit shade was launched- an orangey-red named “22” after Kylie’s lucky number (and I was lucky enough to snag it!). At the same time, all shades except Mary Jo K and True Brown K were restocked, but everything sold out in just over 15 minutes.

Once again, Candy K was one of the most sought-after shades, and it’s not hard to see why!

A Tale of Two Lippies – Act II, The Finale

Berry Me 2? More like Bury Me, Too! Okay, I know that dad joke was lame, but seriously! I get more and more irritated every time I try to wear this lip color from Dose of Colors.

A Tale of Two Lippies – Act I

And I said, “What about breakfast at Tiffany’s?” ?

That song always comes to mind when I see Tiffany Blue! I love this shade because it’s a perfect hybrid of femininity and masculinity. Whether you’re sporting the iconic color with clothing, jewelry, or on your face, it’s sure to be eye-catching!

When I saw promos for this lipstick, I knew I’d have to have it. I hadn’t purchased any Jeffree Star lip colors before, but I’d heard great things about the quality of the formula. More importantly, I recently re-established my crush on Jeffree after watching a YouTube video featuring him and NikkieTutorials. What a throwback to the days of Myspace! I even saw Jeffree live with Warped Tour in 2009 or 2010. Am I showing my age yet?

When the package arrived at my doorstep, I didn’t even give the delivery man time to drive away before I opened the door and greedily grabbed it. Normally, I have a queue of products lined up to review, but I pulled this sucker out of the box and put it on immediately!

The packaging is cute, and I really liked the doe-foot applicator. Shockingly, what impressed me most wasn’t the outside, (as you know, I’m a sucker for cutesy) but the inside! I’m talking about the formula, of course. Breakfast at Tiffany’s applied with such precision and opacity that it looked perfect almost instantly. The texture is soft and velvety, which is a welcome difference from a lot of matte liquid lipsticks on the market right now.

In the photo above where I’m wearing the shade, I first lined my lips with Pool Boy from OCC. This does make it photograph a little bluer, so you’ll get the truest color impression from the swatch on my hand.

The color is gorgeous and super daring – so if you’re not a Bold Betty, it definitely isn’t for you. If you do love your lipsticks with lots of color and a side of fun, be warned that I think this is a limited edition release.

I know it’s early, but I can say for sure that this formula is one of my very favorites. Just a heads up, Jeffree’s instant cult-classic neutral shade Androgyny is re-stocking Feb. 12th. Make sure you get your hands on it before it sells out again!

Now that you’ve seen a fantastic liquid lipstick, stay tuned for a review of a popular formula that could use vast improvement. See you soon!

Play! by Sephora – Feeling December Disappointment in January

In my December review of November’s Play!, I hinted that I was less than pleased with this box.

Let me clarify beforehand: I love several of these products. Some of the main reasons I’ve been so frustrated with these boxes are –

  1. I feel that they consistently lack cohesion.
  2. The service has been redic – for example, this box was shipped on December 15th and didn’t arrive until the 26th (est. delivery was the 19th). I understand this was right around the Christmas rush, but it’s happened with every box before it, too.
  3. Presentation is also kind of a fail. The white confetti that’s stuffed inside always leaves a film of white powder on every product. It makes them feel grimy and gross. Also, as you can see in the picture above, they actually sent out stapled sample packets this month. REALLY?

Now, let’s get down to the finer details. This month’s theme was “Oh, What Fun!”, which honestly made little sense to me. Perhaps if the curation had contained bright colors, or festive products, or something that said fun in any way, I would feel differently.

What Teases! MAC & Dita Von Teese

Dita Von Teese is the physical embodiment of class and seduction – she’s beautiful, she’s empowered, and she’s a lady. Can you tell that I love her a little bit? ?

When I first saw the promo images for her lipstick collaboration with MAC, I knew I had to order it as soon as it was released! Von Teese, an online exclusive, is meant to celebrate the launch of Dita’s new book titled Your Beauty Mark. Guess what’s also next on my reading list?
